Our Volunteers:
Volunteers are the lifeline of Spectra Community Support Services. From inception, we have relied heavily on dedicated volunteers willing to provide comfort and support to callers.
To ensure volunteers are fully equipped to effectively manage our various caller lines, they are carefully screened and required to complete a combined 50 hours of in-class and on-line training sessions before starting on the lines.
Training sessions take place year round and cover a wide range of topics including listening skills, sexuality, values, diversity competency, crisis/suicide prevention/intervention, mental health, HIV/AIDS, disabilities and many other social issues.
Spectra Community Support Services also provides continuous education for its volunteers keeping them up-to-date on social issues, challenges and changes within the community. Training's primary purpose is to ensure that volunteers feel comfortable offering non-judgmental, compassionate, listening and emotional support to callers.
Our volunteers' generous gifts of time, expertise, and participation in numerous events truly make the difference! Spectra Community Support Services highly values volunteer efforts and contributions and recognizes them throughout the year through informal and formal social events and get-togethers.
Volunteering at Spectra Community Support Services can be a tremendously unique and rewarding experience, allowing you the opportunity to help others, while developing skills that will transcend into every aspect of your life.
